For nearly 50 years, the Bissell organization has been helping customers with their office and hospitality needs in Charlotte, North Carolina. Bissell has played a pivotal role in Charlotte’s growth, its success and national reputation for excellence.

Bissell established its strong reputation for quality and superior service in SouthPark. The organization transformed pasture land into one of the most successful multi-use communities in the Southeast. Reinforcing the importance that location is everything, Bissell surrounded commercial properties around SouthPark Mall, today’s premier shopping destination.

Bissell’s initial portfolio included Class A office buildings, Specialty Shops on the Park and The Park Hotel. The organization also developed The Park, an office development designed to meet the needs of major corporations. By the early 1990s, SouthPark had become the second largest business district in North Carolina.

By the mid-1990s, with little land left for development in SouthPark, Bissell decided to set its focus a few miles south. The vision for Ballantyne was about to become a reality.

Bissell is recognized as the primary developer of Ballantyne, a 2,000-acre, master planned community located in the heart of Charlotte. Several decades ago, the Bissell and Harris families envisioned an environment where a diverse population could find opportunities for housing, retail and employment – all within a 10-minute drive. Created on family farmland, the master developers invested in a strong infrastructure to ensure at its inception that Ballantyne would be a sustainable community.

Today, Ballantyne is recognized as one of the most successfully designed and executed mixed use communities in the nation. The original vision is being realized, as Ballantyne connects homes, offices, hotels, golf and other recreational outlets to build a comprehensive and convenient lifestyle.

    • Aloft Charlotte Ballantyne receives LEED Certification in October, representing only the tenth LEED-certified property for Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide.
